Tour Details

“It is not a panorama the eyes gaze upon: it is an excess of nature”, said the poet.

The Douro Valley, a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2001, is a majestic wilderness, one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, but a surprisingly silent place, apart from three bustling weeks of harvest each autumn.

This Douro Valley Private Tour is a journey through a delightful valley, up to these beautiful terraced vineyards where the port wine grapes are grown. If the label on a port bottle seems something of a puzzle, (what, exactly, is LBV? Tawny? Single Quinta?), come to a guided visit to a winery and experience a delicate wine tasting.

For those who enjoy nature and tradition, this a memorable trip with stunning scenery, breath-taking landscapes and traditional heritage.

Itinerary

Description & Itinerary

Pay only for what you enjoy!

Our Douro Valley Tour aims to be a unique and personal experience. We suggest an itinerary, restaurants for lunch, one or two wineries to visit, but we want you to feel free to choose your restaurant, your winery! We will adapt the itinerary, whenever possible, to meet your wishes.

That is why our price does not include lunch, the boat trip, or tickets to wineries and wine tastings.

The typical itinerary integrates the following locations and attractions:

  • Amarante: coffee break at historical centre, visit to Saint Gonçalo Church;
  • Sabrosa: short break at Magellan navigator statue;
  • Provesende: a typical wine-growing village – short visit;
  • Casal de Loivos: magnificent viewpoint over Pinhão and the Douro river. Optional: D’Origem: Table wine, olive oil, almonds and honey tasting including a visit to a traditional olive oil factory (14€/pax).
  • Pinhão: brief visit to the tile panels of the train station. Free time for lunch. Optional: 1 hour boat trip in a traditional Rabelo boat (12,5€/pax).
  • Wineries and wine tasting: near Pinhão and on the way to Peso da Régua we will find some of the most famous wineries that you may choose to visit and wine tasting, among others:
    • Quinta do Bonfim: Port and Table wines (from 19€/pax);
    • Quinta da Roêda: Croft Port wines (from 14€/pax);
    • Quinta da Pacheca: Port and Table wines (from 19€/pax);
    • Have another one in mind? Let us know!
  • Peso da Régua: Free time for a walk by the riverside and the pedestrian bridge across the Douro river. Optional: visit to Museu do Douro (7,50€/pax).
  • Return to Porto.

Notes: Destinations and itinerary may differ due to weather or road conditions, the time spent in each location, and the guide’s discretion. Prices to the wineries mentioned above are merely indicatives and may fluctuate.

This tour is every bit worth the investment! Rui is a very gentle and attentive driver. Picked-us from our hotel in Porto and drove us 4 into the Douro Valley. Gave us great information on Portuguese history and wine and Port on the journey and throughout the day. We visit two quintas, for wine tasting. Very nice lunch, stunning landscapes. Memorable day!
