CASA SÃO ROQUE - Art Center

Did you know that Casa São Roque (formerly Casa Ramos Pinto) dates back to 1759 and that, as was typical in the bourgeoisie and in the noble families of Porto, it functioned as a mansion and hunting lodge?

The eastern part of Porto

The eastern part of Porto, in the past an important industrial hub and commercial area associated to the Campanhã Railway Station, was neglected by the local authorities for many decades. Fortunately, in recent years, things have evolved positively, with rehabilitation projects already implemented and others starting to be.

This area of the city is also often overlooked by our tourists and local tour operators, although it hides some gems to be discovered.

Casa São Roque - Art Center

Today we chose Casa São Roque – Centro de Arte, which reopened to visitors on April 5, located at eastern part of Porto, as the starting point for a visit to this neighborhood, still little known in our city!

Having been acquired by the Porto City Council in 1979 from the Cálem family, it was recently rehabilitated and the result of a protocol between the municipality and Vivercidade, works as a Contemporary Art Pole.

Whether for its architectural and decorative features, where its winter garden is a unique example, either for the art it presents to the public, or for the Garden of São Roque that surrounds and embellishes it, this is a pearl of Porto that deserves to be visited.

Want to go there? We will be glad to drive you there!
